Still having trouble with wiring on my JD 140 garden tractor type TO571 ser.#004446M. I need to know which wires go where on my PTO sw. I have the spring loaded toggle sw. with 5 posts on it (not the push-pull type) My wire colors are purple, blue, orange and purple w/white stripe.

Thanks,
Jim

As I told you before, that type of switch was a change-over, and the wiring is NOT shown in the service manual, (UNLESS they have done an update).

The new switches come with a connection diagram.

I don't have the conversion instructions at hand, but will grab a flashlight after a little while, and take a look at one of mine, out in the backyard, and post back.

Jim, the 140 I have at the house in town has had the wiring repaired, so the color codes are lost.

I have a service manual at the shop, as well as other tractors to look at.

I will post a diagram tonight (after midnight CDT, when I get back), or email me.

DISCLAIMER: Be careful, and verify that the neutral safety and lockout of starting when the PTO is on functions work as they are supposed to! Use this information at your own risk!

DO NOT use the tractor if the safety functions don't work, or you do not understand them!

Try this diagram. The purple and the purple/white wires are the "START" wires.

The blue wire goes to the clutch. The remaining wire SHOULD be power from the 5-Amp breaker. You will have to check that out. Deere changed the color codes a time or two on these circuits.
