I just purchased a John Deere 4020 with the Kinze V-6 Detroit repower kit in it. Does anyone know exactly how many 4020's got repowered. I know they didn't do as many as the 5020's. I've seen a bunch of Kinze repowered 5020's but not many 4020's. Is this a rare tractor?

Almost 30 years when I was teaching school in the area there was a contractor over by Genoa Ohio (slightly south east of Toledo) who had both a 4020 and a 5020 with V-71 Detroit Diesels. Have no idea who did them. There was also a farmer north of Defiance Oh. who had a 5020 with a V-8 71 series and he used it to pull a large Towner rollover plow. He also had rigged up a V-4 Wisconsin on a 720 to pull a 3 bottom Oliver roll over plow.

Is this a Kinze repower or could it have been done by someone else? There was a gentleman in Northern Illinois that repowered several 5010s with Detroit's and at least 1 4020 with a 6v Detroit. I have only seen one 6v 4020. Roger

Doug,

I forgot about Lavern's 4020. Danny Miller also had a Mead 4020 conversion. I sold a lot of parts to Ed for his first 5020 conversion. He bought a burned tractor and I sold him the parts to rebuild it. As an interesting side note the Kinze 5020 repower started after a visit to Ed. Roger
