I reached the golden turn around point as Roger Welsch would say. From now on this project should be a lot more enjoyable. At least I shouldn't have any more unpleasant surprises like broken differential and tranny gears, unobtainable pistons, etc.

The paint is PPG Concept single stage acrylic urethane. I thought about doing more assembly before painting, but then it would get very difficult to coat at all surfaces on everything. So right or wrong, I am going to try to paint components and then assemble. Touchup will definitely be required.

I thought some might like to see the dolly I made for moving the tractor with the tires and rims/hubs off. I didn't spend much on it. Found the wheels for the dolly at an industrial salvage place. Had to make bushings for them.

That is probably true. I think I saw that omni had 14000 colors but not sure as I cruised through ppg website looking for paint chips. And yes..the video card / computer has an effect on colors seen on screen.

Looks like a great project , But the first thing i thought when i saw it was i would have it more together before i ever sprayed any green. I paint under everything and assemble as much as possible before laying down topcoats. The guy that put my new back tires on said most people call him and expect him not to scratch the newly painted rims ,which is nearly impossible , Of coarse i spend to much time on the paint to get it scratched i called him when they were primed , its just one of those things u have to tape off.

I thought about that, but the epoxy primer I used called for getting the top coat on there within a couple days. I could have had a few more things on there, but a storm was coming so I just went ahead with it.

I'll be putting the tires on the rims myself, and I'm not to worried about getting them on. The tire guys are going to give me some real good slippery stuff. Taking them off definitely was a challenge and I did it with the rims off the tractor. I won't do it that way again! But speaking of the rims, I have them all disassembled and primed. I think I will take your suggestion and paint the surfaces that are hard to get at when assembled yellow, then assemble and put the finish coat on the whole assembly. Thanks for your comment.

Looks really nice! Yeah progress is always exciting. What is the ppg color...classic green? Know what the paint code is on it? Working on a 4020 right now.

The paint codes I got from Gary Uken. When I checked with the main paint mixer for United Auto, I started reading the code to him and he picked up on it right away and finished the code sequence from memory. So it must be a common PPG code for JD paint. I believe it is a match for the "ag-green". This is PPG's more expensive paint. I don't know if the same code can be used for their Omni line which I think costs about half as much but is still an acrylic urethane. I'll be investigating that on the next one. But I had to start somewhere and this is where I am at.

Thanks much for the paint code and the tractor picture painted to go with it! Those codes show up on a compiled list by Rod in the paint and body work postings. The 40249 is listed but was specified as simply john deere green. I was in ppg yesterday and they had a book with that code hand written in it and termed "old" Next to it he had one termed "new" and that code was 47910. Both of these codes are in Rods list as John deere green. I also have a code from b maniac of classic green as 43817. Wish I had photos of each of those 3 colors.

Further down rods list there are 2 more codes for john deere tractor green:
41374 and 46180.

The yellow that you used is also on Rods list but is listed as a 1995 John deere yellow. Rod has 3 jd yellows for 1967 plus a 1991 yellow.

Would be a good post catagory for guys to post their tractor pics with the paint codes used like fit's 70.

This green seems to be a very close match to the prepainted battery box that I bought for the tractor recently. But the color I see on my computer monitors is a little more pastel looking. Standing next to the tractor, the color looks a little greener/warmer/richer. So I don't know if you can trust what you see on your computer monitor as a good representation of what you get with this color code. I appreciate learning about those other codes. I wonder if the differences in those codes has to do with the different paint lines (Omni vs Concept)? Don't they have fewer tint colors to choose from when mixing Omni?
