We have a 1945 A with a single front wheel. I always thought the fork on the old 2 cylinders was non-removable. This tractor has a bolt on fork. It is not the same pattern as the newer tractors. Is this something that has been remodeled or did JD build some like this.

If your AN is really a 1945, the fork should be nonremovable. If it has a split petestal so that the front end can be changed to wide or double narrow ect. it has a later petestal installed from a 1947 or newer A (serial # 584000& up)

We also have a 1951 A with roll-a-matic. It has a different hole pattern for the front wheel(s) to bolt to the pedistal. Did that style come out in 47?
Our 45 must have been modified.

You have a JD model "AN" {N meaning narrow} tractor with a single front wheel. This is to prevent the front wheel from riding up on the sides of the irrigation furrows, as a narrow two wheel front end would do. It is made that way at the factory. Widely used in southern and SW US.
