THE FRUITS OF PROPER PREVENTITIVE MAINTENANCE 101

Okay so last fall I put my unstyled B to bed with lots of Sta Bil in the gas tank,,,,, low ash combustible Mercury Quicksilver Marine 2 cycle oil in the gas tank,,,,, ,,,Gumout in the gas tank,,,,, ,, left the flywheel where the mags points were left OPEN,,,,, ,,,drained the carb,,,,, ,,,left throttle wide open,,,,, TODAY I removed n cleaned the plugs,,,,,ran my clean white handkerchief between the points to remove any oxide or residue,,,,, ,,turned gas on n let it run out the carb bowls bottom drain cock a long time to clean n wash any gum or varnish off the needle n seat,,,, set the flywheel choke n throttle EXACTLY where I wanted it n SHE STARTED RIGHT UP THE VERY FIRST PULLLLL LLL Wooooo Hooooo ooooo Sure, had anyone been watching it that would NOT have happened grrrrr rrr

I take some credit for the preventitive maintenance and all buttttt tt I give a lot of credit to Glen in Tx for building up the hottest Mag Ive ever owned.....

Always enjoy seeing pictures of your unstyled B.

PM on equipment is also very important to me.

I will always remember a "post" that I read on this site: "Equipment will last as long as the owner wants it to."

Fine looking family photo too.

Thats always a nice feeling when it starts first pull, isn't it?

Is all that PM really needed? Last fall we parked our '45 H in the chicken coop, turned the gas off, and closed the doors. This spring we opened the doors, turn on the gas, and it started on the first pull. We've been doing this for years.

John

If ya don't mind giving away trade secrets, what kind of paint and primer ya got on that good looking girl? Hardner also?

The JD stuff with hardner seems like it is losing its luster on my 420. The paint is only about 3 years old.

Im NOT a painter, all I know is its John Deere Classic Green with hardener????? I do all the grunt work of clean n sand n mask etc etc but my buddy Paul shoots the paint on (Hes good). I keep it in an enclosed shed with a breathable car cover draped over it. It looks fine buttttt ttttt they usually appear shinier in pictures then in real life ya know.

Thanks, John T

Yep I think the older unstyled 37 and 38 probably had the C mag originally but the X just has more spark gap energy and is avaialble with the hot coil.

John,
They had the FM DRV2B magnetos. The H was the first to use a C. Sounds like you had a good time at Canandaigua, sorry to have missed it.

I guess if it comes to splitting hairs, preventative is no more correct than preventitive, since "preventative" technically isn't even a "real word", at least according to Webster's Online, even thought it is commonly used, or actually misused. So everyone referencing it in this thread is wrong, regardless of spelling. Typing in "preventative" refers you to the ACTUAL word, which is "preventive". Makes sense when you think about it. Preventative maintenance would be done to "preventate" something, and "preventate" sure isn't a word.

Gary, John T posted to himself about his spelling. It is alright. He is laughing at himself. Don't get bent out of shape. Life is too short.
