I am in the process of sandblasting and preparing my 37 A for the paint job. What paint and primer do you restorers recommend. Is the paint found at John Deere Implement dealers any good, or should I go to a auto-body man and have him mix it for me. Any help would be appreciated! John

Hoss -- If you are buying Classic Green from John Deere, you are buying Synthetic Enamel made by Valspar for John Deere. In as much as it is not a latex or water-based paint, I suppose one may call it oil-based using the terms of decades back. But yes, it's SE or Synthetic Enamel. And I have experimented using mineral spirits as a reducer for SE, and believe me -- it was terrible. Fortunately, I covered only a couple pieces - then contacted Shawn Mahady at Valspar Engineering a number of years back, and with his help, I learned a bit about SE and what reducers to use plus data on hardeners -- those catlytic compounds that hasten the cure and bring out a deep (high) gloss. I do not say what you should or should not use with various paint products, but I DO recommend you experiment on some unimportant surfaces before shooting your prize tractor or implement. It won't take long to learn what you need to about paint additives.

I also urge folks new to spray painting of farm machinery to research health-related issues to be aware of when shooting paint and paint compounds. Thee are some evil chemicals out there!(PatB)

Pardon me -- I have been taught that you should NEVER, EVER add Mineral Spirits to any Synthetic Enamel paint!!! How many years did it take to cure?

i used utech automotive paint and am very happy with the results.it needs hardener mixed in before spraying.ive already heard if you use hardener with john deere paint it will get glossy just like automotive paint.
