I baled up some hay for a lady this year and she complained the bales were smaller than standard small square bales. Now the guy I sold to last year didn't say anything, and I don't notice a size difference myself, what is your opinion on size differences. I believe that they are 14x18. Thanks for any advise.

I ALWAYS MAKE MINE TWICE AS LONG AS THEY ARE WIDE . STACKS GOOD THAT WAY. BUT SOME PEOPLE JUST TRY TO COMPLAIN TO CUT INTO YOUR POCKET . I HAD A GUY ONCE BUY HAY THAT WAS PERFECT. HE LEFT IT OUTSIDE AND THE BOTTOM MOLDED. HE WANTED A REFUND. BASICALLY TOLD HIM TO TAKE A HIKE AND NEVER SOLD TO HIM AGAIN. THE GOOD CUSTOMERS MAKE IT WORTHWHILE THOUGH, JUST GOT TO THIN OUT THE RIF RAF.

Joe, my guess is that she wanted them longer so she wouldn't have to pay you for so many..:) But if you would have made them longer, she would have complained because they were too heavy. I see a pattern here..:) Mike

btw 36 inches was the length, I've never seen a 48 inch bale, wouldn't that fall apart in the middle to easy? her three quarter remark is 125% full of cr@&.

No she was saying size, This is the first year I have had a successful crop to actually sell it. the first load I did for her she complained they were so heavy she had to drag them across the yard. This grass hay on this last load was like 50-60 lbs. I didn't think they were three quarter size, or something. she just wants to not pay what they are worth. So either she will be fair or I wont sell to her again. We'll just chuck this up to experience, being a first generation farmer and all I've had a lot of that. Thank for your help.

some will complain about anything, and she wanted them free also or cheap. 38-42 common, mine run in 42inch range. I don't worry about that as much as weight, most of the market that I sell to 50lbs is tops for the weight.

14X18X36 long is correct size. 18X2=36 for cris-crossing when stacking. Maybe the lady was refering to the weight of the bales? Tx Jim
