Help--- Can't get a 2010 with new injection system installed to start and run correctly. I have double checked timing and all componets-Pump, injectors, lines. It will crank but runs with white smoke bellowing out. Timing checks out, but to much unburned diesel, any ideas?? K. Dancy

The local Dealer had a 2010 run like that after it was overhauled , (sleeves and pistons twice )had the pump and nozzles checked out 3 times by 2 different shops.I went out to look at it and all that was wrong was the trimmer screw on the Inj. pump had to be adjusted by ear. that pump is advanced under load not by speed.Find an older mechanic that has worked on 2010's (he will tell you things you dont want to know about them .

The 2010 is one of the few engines that will run w/timing 180 deg. out. From the way you describe it, sounds like that's your problem. Make sure you are on #1 compression stroke. You may have to pull #1 injector to confirm it. This is just another of the many weird things about a 2010.

sounds to me like your engine is out of time by 180 degrees.were the line up marks on the pump lined up when you removed the pump? I am not very familiar with this model, does it have the same type pump as a 3010? on a 3010 i have seen were someone turned the driving shaft 180 degrees instead of properly puting the oil pump in time as it should be

The white smoke indicates partial combustion, and usually signifies sufficient fuel. Obviously, no spark is needed. I assume your timing and pump rebuild are right on, and there is enough air flow through intake. So compression (valves and rings), or injectors (you didn't say they were rebuilt), or glow plugs. Not using the glow plugs, will a little (not a lot or even moderate amount)whiff of ether up the intake do anything? Was the engine running before the rebuild? Good luck!
