JD B Retrofit Hydraulic and Rockshaft Cover Questions

I would like to add a rockshaft/hydraulic setup to my early styled (1940) B. I know I will need a different PTO cover with rockshaft, pump gears etc and either power-trol or power-lift. The PTO shaft measures 1 1/8" dia. Will I need to use the PTO shaft from the donar tractor? What other internal parts will I need for the PTO shaft? Will I have to use parts from an early styled B, or will other years and models interchange? I know the power-trol and powerlift will be the same but I don't know about the cover and shaft/ gears etc.

Thanks,

John

Thanks for the replies. The PTO shaft diameter is 1 1/8" for the '40. Sometime in '43 they increased the diameter to 1 3/8" . So, to make a later cover work ( before sn 200,999) would the hyd pump drive gear and bearing have to be changed to accomadate the different dia shaft? What did you mean by "any tractor" ? Did you mean any model B tractor or any 2 cylinder model tractor?

According to the parts book (putting it together is next weeks project), the rear housing that includes the rockshaft should interchange on any tractor from 60,000 to 200,999. I think the only internal parts you need from the donor tractor are the shorter pto shaft and all of its associated parts (see page 100 of the styled B parts book). All of these tractors use the same rear housing gasket. Let me know how it goes.

There are enough other parts on those 1939 and 1940 models that are unique to them that at first guess I'd say if you can find the hyd. off one of the same era it will save alot of headaches. hpoefully someone who has recently did one of those will see this and help clear it up.
