Wondering if it is worth my time to repair the threads on the bowl stem. Looking for ideas on how you did the work. Also where I could send for the repair work. Have two carbs for a 41B with the problem.

This comes under the head of "structural repair". Mike M & johns48jdb have both told you of using the butt end of a sparkplug. It is a time-honored way of repair. Just be sure you jig the parts up so they get fused together squarely!

The rub comes in when the IDLE needle valve and/or IDLE passage segments are involved in the break. And so if the break is so far up that this isn't practical for you to repair using the plug threads method, Robert's Carb Shop (below) can make these issues go away quite nicely. And while some consider such repair expensive, I didn't think so -- for without repair, the carb is lost.

In my latest case, there was a breakout at the upper throttle bushing point, in the throttle tube. The throttle valve couldn't fully close. Simple little thing, but nonetheless, keeps a tractor from running right. The cost for doing the work and returning my carb was $60.

And in the event you want to "test the waters" so to speak, call them & arrange to send the carb body up for a quote on the repair. That way you know before hand what the cost will be. On something like yours, they may quote you over the telephone -- I haven't ever asked them to do that though. You will be okay! (PatB)

The old large spark plugs were 7/8-18 tpi which is what you need. You can braze them on or if you have a lathe make an adapter and tap the insides of the carb. stem and screw it in. You have to make a groove for fuel to get in and use a short spring for the nozzle. This will work if it isn't broke off to far up.

there is away to machine the end of the carb off and replace it with a certain size spark plug that is machined down to fit and welded in place. others will tell you more or you can look up roberts carb repair and send them your carbs to be repaired. it might be expensive so you might want to send just one and keep the other for parts.
