I plan on buying a JD Model 60 and need to know about how much it weighs before I decide to put it on my trailer or my friends. Anybody out there have any ideas. My trailer will handle about 4300 lbs and my friends about 7000. I hate to borrow things and would like to use my if the weigh is within limits.

Jerry, 60 service manual says dry weight for narrow front 5300 and wide 5690. It would be considerably more with fluid in tires and extra weights. I definately would NOT put on 4000 lb. trailer. If the 7000 lb is the light angle iron type I wouldn't trust it either. Axles are usually rated lower than actual capacity but you have to consider tire condition and construction. I hauled my 620 about 150 miles on a solid steel trailer(heavy built), but no trailer brakes. The tractor and trailer were about 9000lb. I had enough power but could NOT stop very well. This was stupid on my part and I would NOT recommend it. I made it OK, but I was lucky. It would be better to pay someone with the right equipment to haul it for you than to have a 60 scattered all over the road and have to buy your friend another trailer. Just something to think about. Good Luck
Nathan

Jerry, a typical 60 with tricycle ft end & no p/s or wide ft. end & no ballast in tires will go about 5700-5900 lbs. add about 300 lbs for wide ft, 200lbs apx. for p/s, 400lbs+ in each rear tire if full of ballast, It will be a handful on a 7000lb. trailer without sway control & equallizer. Don't even think of pulling it without trailer brakes. About 4000 on rear wheels with no ballast.
