Forgot to say I have your book on the H.It is a gold mine of information. The carberator section would be useful to all models.Ive had the JD H for 42 years now.I worked for a john deere dealer in the 50s mostly on the model 40 and MC.Ive forgotten a lot about them. Thanks for writing the H book.

36 coupe -- Thanks for your words of encouragement and of thanks. While I didn't make a bundle by writing books on the JD-H tractor, my reward has come largely by satisfied people such as you writing to me to say they enjoyed having the Restoration Guide. The Guide is applicable to other JD two-cylinder tractors in many ways, largely from its down-to-earth way of getting people the "think" their way out of trouble which, many times, can be done!

It is an interesting handle you use -- My Dad had a 37 LaFayette Coupe which he modified into a sort of a pick-up truck. It was also the family vehicle in the early 40's, and hauling pea-vine silage gave it quite a distinctive aroma. And we probably looked a lot like the Clampits in Beverley Hills when we went into the small town of Elkhorn in Wisconsin for supplies. Those were the days!

For a few interesting tidbits of my days on the farm, go to the JD-H Restoration Site (below), look in SPECIAL INTEREST items to the right, and one-click on the BIO-LINKS drop-down. (PatB)

Took the broken part out and found the # cast in the part.Called a JD dealer and he found the part at another dealer.Broken part is H843R finger. The hydraulic tank will take in water past the valve shaft if packing is worn.Ice pushes the valve shaft up and breaks the thin finger off the part. This happened about 20 years ago.Keeping tractors out doors is not good.A shelter for both tractors is going up soon. The JD H will get water in the air cleaner if it sits idle out doors.
