I have an amazing original GPWT and I was told a while back about something you could mix up and wipe on the paint and silk screening to make them brighter. Not sure what it was. Whatever i put on it i do not want it to hurt the finish over the years. Really it does not need anything but if anyone has a recipe that will not hurt the finish let me know. Thanks

Nick

Glad to see so many responses in favor of the original look.

But, a page or 2 back a fellow was inquireing about painting an original 4020 and so far I'm the only one that said don't do it ? Maybe most didn't see it or read it ?

You might want to check with the 2 Cylinder club for advice on proper preservation of the original decals and finish. They may have some ideas... or at least be able to point you in the right direction. If anyone would know, I'd think they would.

You have to bring you GPWT to Springfield Ohio Expo next year. Our feature is unrestored original tractors. There is more nice original out there than anyone thinks. we have a few nice originals and I will just keep them oiled up with some WD-40 on our 30 GP I used a low gloss clearcoat you can't even tell its there.

You have a very beautiful tractor. We have a 1930 John Deere GP in original workclothes. We are the second owner's since 1979. We have been told, Diesel or Kerosene brushed on. Have seen them like that at show's. We haven't actually done it yet. The GP is always inside. Take care of that beauty. I appreciate ORIGINAL tractors the most. Jennifer

I use plain turtle wax to brighten up old enamel paints. Always test spot first.

Man, Nothing survives that nice in Ohio, even if it's indoors. I bought a '36 Chevy tudoor in South Dakota a few years back with the original paint on it. Still have it. That is one nice tractor!! Thanks for the pic.!

what ever you spray just do a small test spot to start with and see if it makes the paint curl up.

That is a great looking tractor, a piece of preserved history!

I don't know if it matters, but the markings on the hood are probably paint (silk screened) and not a decal.

More and more I love to see original tractors !

Very seldom do you see any in the Ohio climate.

With the internet I'm seeing alot more of them then I'd of thought were out there. Hardly anything as old as yours.

The best preserver I've seen was oil leaks ! messy though.

Yeah... uhm, i usually spray clear silicone from an aerosol can over stuff this original to keep it from rusting.

Here is a link hope it works, it has some pictures of some my other tractors, and a couple more of this GPWT, one of the hood that shows the nice decals on top.
