I understand that a leaking hydraulic tank in a 1960's is pretty common. Can anybody suggest how to fix it? What do you think about pulling the tank all together and running a longer suction tube into the rear end?

Can you fiberglass the tank?

Any ideas?

The part is obsolete from john deere.

The idea of running a larger hose into the rear end won't work unless you totally change out the fluid. It has gear oil in the rear end, not HyGuard.

If the leak is not too bad, maybe you can find someone who can weld plastic?

I am not sure where you are, but have you tried getting the part from a wrecker? These tractors were originally sold in Canada, not the USA, so you need to check with Canadian wreckers. To help broaden the search have a Deere dealer see if the tank from a 710 is the same part. This will give you a better chance of finding one.

We have one 510 here that has the hydraulic system redone by the previous owner. They bolted a valve and a tank on the right fender. A large hose is the suction line between the tank and the pump. Another hose runs from the pump to the valve and finally a line from the valve to the tank. This has two problems. First I really should install a filter on this. Second the three point hitch is now totally useless.

In the long run you are probably better off If you can find a replacement or repair your tank.

What about running TDH in the rear-end/tranny?

No good?
