I have an old 310A in decent working condition. Recently I have noticed that it requires higher RPMs to move the machine, and the left drive wheel is sticking. The brake pedals are extremely stiff, and if I jack it up on the loader and stabilizers and put it in gear, the right drive wheel turns while the left does not. If I apply the right brake, the left wheel turns, but squeals and the engine labors. Applying the brakes independently does not feel any different, they require the same amount of pressure (a lot).

Any ideas? I have the John Deere 310 Technical service manual, so I have access to decent information. I just do not know where to begin troubleshooting to fix this beast.

Remove your forward floor plates the access the pivot shaft for the brake pedals and as previously stated, soak the area with a good penetrant. Also while you are at it soak the pivot shaft for the reverser lever. This is on the top of the transmission and crud collects on it and holds moisture causing the shaft to rust, bind and lock up. I did this last January in a snow storm in the driveway. Now I take a little extra time in July when I service the machine and pull up the floor plates and clean up and soak all pivot points with some old lucus gear lube I have in a squirt can.

The pedals can operate separately when the locking bar is released.

Almost sounds like the pedals are seized on the pivot shaft. If its not used alot that can happen. Remove the floor plate and try spraying some PB blaster on the pivot. Sometimes that will work but sometimes the pivot pin has to be removed and cleaned properly. I want to say that the valve has to be removed to get the pin out but I dont remember. Then that leads to other issues... seized/rusted brake lines that break when removed etc...
