Wow, for years I hadnt thought much about those 3 cute lil girls The Peasall Sisters who sang "In The Highways" in the Movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou buttttt ttttt I went to check them out and what beautiful harmony they sing. They have grown up some now and voices changed from lil girls. I even went so much as to order the DVD Documentary of their family. Six good Christian kids all home schooled and did I mention WHAT BEAUTIFUL HARMONY. Check out the Trailer on the Web Site link below and listen to those girls sing wooooo hooooo o Im a fan.

One of the three little girls who played them (the dark haied one in the middle) in the movie is from the town near where I live. She too is grown up and was recently crowned "Miss Teen Mississippi". The radio station shown in the movie is across the gravel road from one of the fields where I duck hunt. Of course it was built just for the movie and all that is left now is the tower you see in the movie. The rest was torn down by souviner seekers or people who wanted some lumber for something.

Awesome groups. I love Gospel Bluegrass music as that's mainly what I pick on the ole 5 string banjo. Thanks for the links.

At my advanced age lol I been taking a few 5 string finger style banjo lessons for a couple months now and ITS FRUSTRATING. I got pretty good at the 3251 4251 3251 4251 Scruggs Forward Alternating Roll buttttt then I learned a few songs in open G of course and got to pinching n picking more like frail style n now I lost the roll n cant hardly play nuttin grrrrr rrrrr

My coach say stop playin songs n just run that roll like I was a few weeks ago till it comes back n stays

Frustrating probably isn't the best word to describe it, but we'll keep it clean here. lol

Earl's alternating thumb roll is very difficult. Most times my brain don't send a signal fast enough to my fingers on where to go and then I just fall back to the forward or reverse roll. Earl does make it look easy. He's the master of a banjo, no doubt. I can always pick out when he comes on XM track 14. His sound is so much different and he picks very very clean. I've been working on 'Reuben' and played with his CD the other day. I needed ben gay on my fingers when I was done. LOL

Happy picking!

Welllll ll I feel better today, first thing I do is set n run that 3251 4251 3251 4251 forward alternating bass roll for about 5 mins and actually thats not my problem, I can keep it rolling by itself. THE PROBLEM IS when I start playing songs like Wreck of Old 97 or I Saw the Light or Ill Fly Away (they all sound the same lol same notes lil differernt order) my timing or rythm gets to to playing 4 roll notes and PINCH 4 roll notes and PINCH etc and before long I loose the regular roll grrrrr rr I can run that roll great but when I start trying to pluck the melody with my thumb I loose track of the roll n end up pickin n pinchin which dont sound too bad actually buttttt tttt not near as full n complete as if the roll is ALWAYS there grrrrr rrr

Im gonna winter at an RV park in deep south Mission Texas n hopefuly I can jam n play n learn there buttttt tt I goota practice n practice that roll almost 24/7 till I dont even know Im doin it I reckon. Coach wants me to practice the 3 note (more bluegrass) 215 215 215 215 but I cant seem to get it cuz the 3251 is easier for now since I been playing it

back to a lil Sunday mornin practice

I know what you mean John. From where you think you're getting off beat or the rythm is off, have you tried just picking the melody...get used to the feel of that, then adding all the extra strings?

I play Sonny Osbornes version of 'I saw the light'. The Hammer-ons (HO) and pull-off (PO) in D are giving me fits. There are two HO's and one PO all within one measure. (It all goes back to that brain signal to finger thing...there's alot of truth to beer killing brain cells. LOL)

While in Texas, you should have a warm setting for jamming. The cold weather in VA really affects my fingers.

The wife has us scheduled to play at a bon fire on Nov 10th. I'm trying to back out cause the cool evenings make me fingers stiff. Only thing she says is..... .....stiff is good! LOL

If I ever get back to the NY show, we'll pick alittle.

I just watch Earl play. It's easier that way. LOL Flatt and Scruggs were great to say the least.

I checked out your group on you tube (without the space between you and tube) There is a video of them as little girls singing as well as a couple more modern videos.

Id go with the top quality unit cuz it may well last for yearsssss sssss plus it may better tightly regulate the gennys field current so it dont overheat. Dont look at it like the $55, but look at it for only $25 more.....

Your tractor n dollars ur choice

best Wishes
