Hey guys and gals
Heres my story. I'm re doing a 37 unstyled A from the ground up. It set at the field edge for the last twenty years. Can you say WELL DONE. The closest JD dealer is about an hours drive from the house. It's looks to be a brand new dealership located along the interstate. I talked with them breifly and they said it would help if I sent along a parts book for the items I'd want. The dealer said they would ship the parts right to my door, I'd pick up the mail tab. I have the owners and parts books, thats not the problem. I'm thinking if I could find a dealer that alreadly knows it's way around the unstyled kind I'd be ahead of the game. So anyone know a good unstyled dealer say in the mid west? I'm looking for gaskets and bearings and such. I have the main overhaul gasket set. What about those not use very often. Do they still make some of these gaskets or do I make my own, that is what I expect an knowledgeable JD man to tell me. NOT "well I couldn't find that part number but maybe this will work".
Thanks

Thanks for the info. Gary I'll try him. There is nothing worse than walking into a supply shop and asking the kid behind the counter for a part and you receive the blank stare. You know that he or she was hired because they had a heart beat and not because they are fresh out of a four year college for supply parts and parts book research. Some supply people have that special nitch for a series of tractor or combine. I been around engines most of my life and even have two unstyled D's in the family. This is the deepest I been into one of these beside removing the head and block.
I've had Sharps web site already saved and a couple copies of green mag. I'm just looking to make this parts getting as painless as possible.
Thanks

Try Heritage Tractor, Inc. in Baldwin City, KS. 785-594-6486. My brother is the service manager so I know they are familiar with the older tractors.

My local dealear will put my items in with their stock order and then you don't have to pay shipping. But you might have to wait a week or two.

fax or xerox the pages that you need and then keep a note book on what you've odered, so you want order the same thing twice. send those copies to the dealer. there is not many, if any, people stil employeed by jd that knows them inside and out. you can call vern at sneed agriculure. he knows them inside and out. also try marlyn smith at 712-489-2570 for parts. thats sneed in north ala. sorry don't have their number. don't tear anything up that you want to take off unless you have a replacment part in your hand.

there are several aftermarket firms...pickup a Green Magazine...but if you are going to Deere I don't know what difference it would make, they need the parts #, they may be able to check other dealers stock, a far as advise, you'll be lucky to find a dealer that has anyone living that worked on one of those...these people are here on net...

I dont know about JD dealers near you but Sharp's Antique Tractors in Fair Grove, MO just NE of Springfield can Help you with most anything you want and most likely will have the parts. Phone (417) 933-2253 www.oldjd4u.com. I have found them to be very helpful.
