This message board has a wealth of information on it. We need every one to make it work. Between all of us there probably has been nothing that has never been heard of. If it has not been heard of chances are there is a individual or individuals that can figure it out. Between F-I-T,

Mike M, P.Browning, Glen in TX, and I know there are many more (just can't think of them all now) they can figure it out.
I have personally went through 4 tractors from the front to the back. Every tractor was in need of assistance from this board. It makes life a lot easier when you are frustrated.
First you need all of the JD manuals for your tractor. That way when you post you are on the same page as every one else. Also give good details in your post if not your answer will not be detailed.

Before posting do a quick search in the archives chances are pretty good that your question has been asked before. If not by all means post it. It does good just to refresh everyones mind.

Most people don't know the other person on the other end of the keyboard. So if you are naturally harsh so be it. But others may take that to heart and think you are just arogant and may not help you. This is not a site to take personal shots at someone for asking or stating something that you personally don't agree with. Just try to answer or ask questions in a neutral tone.
It seems like the last several months there has been alot of tension on this board. People are pi**ing and moaning about what others have to say. Remember every one has a opinion.

There have been very knowlegable people leave this board for this reason. We cannot afford to lose more!

Most everyone is here because we do it as a hobby or still use these tractors to make a living. Mostly because these trators are fun and this board should be the same.

Just take a deep breath before you put something on here for thousands of people will see. And alot of people won't forget who you are and may not help when you are in need.
This site is a great tool to learn from. Just remember you need your manuals. That is the key.

Thank You, to all who make this board possible.

Have a good day.

Agreed, but the poor poster, as you put it, may be a first timer, but the question he asks, however simple it may seem to us, is very important to him, and needs to be answered in a curteous manner.

The OT board was meant to be the pressure relief for those that needed it. It works pretty well, but some people must need more relief. I get aggravated at things on this site from time to time, so I go away for a few days or weeks.

I agree completely. There is no reason to be rude. None of us were born knowing what we know about these tractors and some of us have an easier time understanding the manuals than others. Plus, there are little jewels of info that come only from experience. Just answer the question politely and skip the snide remarks.

I second your thoughts. I am one of those who may ask what some would think as a dumb question since I am learning about the mechanical ways of 2 cyl jd's. My first one to disassemble is a 41 h and Pat browning and others have been very helpful. That means I'm learning about shims and babbit. I'm changing it from hand start to electric start. On the other hand, I was trained in high school (I'm 53now) to do body work so the sheet metal and painting are usually a breeze for me. Soon I'll be going from the smallest jd to one of the largest as I am going to restore my grandfather's 46 d. This forum has a wide array of folks at different levels of knowledge. I hope egos will not get in the way and patience and mentoring will prevail.

We hear you loud and clear. I have been rattled by some of the things that were said, and everything worked out fine. Sometimes the frustration of having a tractor out of commision is taken out on this site. When everything is said and done, we still get back to what we all love, tractors. As I was told before, some people just need to lighten up, get a manual and do it right the first time. This is a pic of me getting the rewards of having the correct manuals. Thanks to everyone for all their advice, I was able to get the old iron running again!

I have alot of trouble finding stuff in the archives. Even if I posted it ? Can't have everything and with this site we get more than we pay for ! Besides a working archive system the other thing I sometimes wish I had was a revise or delete button for something I posted and after I hit submit I realize I goofed up or should of phrased something better/different.

And yes some "chill pills" would be nice to send to all.

Perhaps you can't find it because of what was used for the subject line. A year from now, what would you use to find this post?? Take a look at the subject line for other posts.

Couldnt agree more on your post. The archives are great but one thing I would like to see is feedback from the person getting the info on if the advice worked. We rarely see any of this type of feedback.

Your advice to others about posting is great but only reaches people that read it today. Unfortunatly not reaching joe blow that comes along and has never been to this site before which is where most of our poor posters come from . But it was a good effort lol .
