i am loking to buy a 1976 2440 w/ a 175 loader for $9000. the man that owned her for over 20 yrs. passed away and his family sold her to a local dealer. she sat for 1-2 yrs. i don"t know of her care, when the dealer got her they replaced the batteries, oil & filter, fuel filter, w.p. gaskets, rockshaft seals, new seat loader cables, tie rod end, adj. wheel bearings, and thermostat. the loader valve needs replacing, or rebuilding, and the front end needs to be repaired. at high speeds on road there is alot of play. the frt tires are 11L16 and i can"t find any 3 or 4 rib ones, rear tires 38s.and if you change gears it has to be stoped or they grind. is this normal? i only have $10,000 to spend, and i need her to last 200 hrs. and 2 yrs before i can spend much more. i am only used to 20 -20 hp kubota"s for lawn care and i need help. i need to use the loader clearing a shelter belt, and a small pasture with 2 piles of cow manure, and to pull a disk and grain drill for a small hobby farm. thanks

I have a 2640 and the steering is shaky. I replaced
all the tierod ends and the bushing in the idler arm
One more $500 part to go. down at the end of the steering column. There is a 3" diameter cap, pull it out and check to see how sloppy that is.

Are you sure the rear tires are 38 and not 28...try double clutching when you shift...

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

what size front tires do you have. mine has 11L16, and i can"t find anything but a wagon tread. i was thinking about going to a 15 wheel & tire.

the rear tires are 15.5x38 and the fronts are 11L16 and the only frt. ones i can find are wagon type not 3 or 4 rib. i am wondering if i should look for a 2440 in better cond. w/o a loader and add the loader latter. ther is a nice looking one with only 400 hrs. on anew engine, and 4100hrs. total, but it's 700 miles away. the trans. is a collar shift, and the dealer said you have to stop her to change gears, is this true?

Jody- You can't shift between ranges on a collar shift or syncro transmission, but if done just right, you can shift between gears. On my 1530 with collar shift I push in the clutch, rev the engine up with the foot throttle and then let off it and shift into the next gear while moving. Sounds like a lot, but it can be done quickly and easily if you don't try to force it into gear. Just put pressure on the shifter and it should pop right in without grinding.

I bought my 1976 2440 six years ago for $8000 No loader. I don't know if that helps you any. It was in excellant shape. Needed nothing. I have since had to put a clutch in it. I will say of all the tractors I have ever owned it is may favorite. I use it for planting (6-row) cultivating, haying and pulling grain wagons. Very user friendly and easy to operate. I have heard that they like to run hot when working hard which is not a problem for my use. Also heard the Hydraulics are not very strong but I dont have a loader on mine and it lifts planter and cult. just fine.

the dealer said they would fix the loader valve for $300, and $850 for the front end. they already put $1000 in parts and 30 hrs. labor @ $70 an hour. i am waiting for my oil & hyd. analysis to come back, but all the other tractors w/ a loader in that price range seem to be in worse cond. the good ones seem to go for $12000 to $14000 in this area, also the tach. broke @ 2800 hrs. but she starts and runs good. thanks

I agree with Larry. The only way I"d pay $9,000 for it is if it were completely gone through and had everything fixed that needed it including tires. I bet you can talk them down a little. For that money you could possibly get a 50 series in that HP range, and they are a better tractor.

$9,000 in my opinion is too much. Its a good tractor but new it was only $11,000 - 31 yrs later even with a loader I can`t see the price that high. My brother in NC still has and uses a 1976 2440 our Dad bought new. If you can get the pice down so you have more room to fix the things that it needs go for it!!!
