Will a JD dealer go inspect a tractor for me(obviously for a price). I just committed to buy a 4020 on ebay and it is about 4 hours away. Might cost the same as driving there and save the time...

its been my experience that if a tractor is a good one some body locally will buy it. my second cousin has gone off with trailer in toe to three different sellers houses and returned empty handed. last trip was 4 hours away and the tractor was no where close to being as advertised. if i were a dealer i wouldn't go inspect it for you. he would probably think that you might sue him if you buy it on his say so and it turns out to have major problems.

If I were buying this tractor, I would spend the time to drive and inspect it myself. NO ONE WILL SPEND YOUR MONEY AS WISELY AS YOU.

I think you are a little late in asking. You should have had them look before the sale was over. 4 hours isn't that long, maybe you should have went yourself. If the dealer does go look and he says it's ok, then what grounds do you have to reject it after it's at you door? Your looking at three opinions and I bet that each one will be different from the next. The only true way was to check it out before the end of the auction by yourself.

Depends on the seller. I have sold a several large pieces of equipment on E-Bay, and I always put in my terms that if you get there and don't like what you see; walk away and no harm done. If you pay me and leave; it is yours.

Joe, never hurts to ask. Although you've already bought it, so what's the point? Also, if you've ever had a home inspection, you pay a qualified inspector to come out and go thru your house for a couple hundred bucks. There's a disclaimer at the bottom that says they aren't liable for missing anything, or inaccuracies. Doubtful that any dealer would commit to such a thing.

Well, technically yes I have bought it.

However, if I showed up on his doorstep and the tractor being presented to me was materially different and his ebay ad was not truthful, then legally no I am not required to buy the tractor. It would be fraud in the inducement....

Yes, you are right, if the tractor was wayyyy off in its description, you are eligible to make a claim against his decription.

However, don't jump to any conclusions just yet! I hope you take home a good tractor!

Best of luck with your tractor.,... :-)
