I was wondering what peoples experience has been with JD Compact tractors such as the 955, 4300, 4310, vs. a 4320. I have an 855 and I am looking to upgrade a little in HP. I need hydrostatic and 4x4 and a loader. Paul

Mike: Those are noise cancelling head phones. Not that it is noisey, but I plug them into my phone and listen to music when mowing. Otherwise its the sound of the yanmar engine. I tried one of those radio head sets that Home Cheapo sells around here, and they did not work well. These are Bose Quiet comfort, and they work GREAT, especially on an airplane.

I"ve had 2 755s, now have a 4400, a 670(baby compact) have had a 870...only had minor problems and found them to be work horses. I prefer the 4x4 and have found stick shifts more power than hydros. Hydros okay for a lot of loader work, mowing but for flat out lugging you loose some through hydro. I go up in HP if I planned on heavy work and hydro. Can"t say bad about any of the equipment when in fact they will surprise you the work you can do...always use quick hitches....great setup...hi pressure on the pumps....

I had a 4110 with a loader,and a 48" tiller. Had it 5 years and no trouble. Traded this year for a 2520 and added a 48" bush hog. I also have A 49
(B) restored.

I have an 855 two-wheel drive (best over-all JD I have ever owned), and I wonder if a 955 would be a better fit since I need a good little loader tractor. I have a loader on the 855, and it works well, but I think I need to down grade it to mowing only. I am thinking of buying a new tractor this coming year, but I'm not sure what would be an upgrade in size and power. I would think that I would want 35 hp min. I have plenty of power i n my 70D for big jobs. I'm interested in reading the responses you get on this thread.

I have a 4400, it now has 400 hours on it. Never missed a beat yet and works great. I used it with the 420 loader, 72" snow blade, a 6 foot core airator, land pride overseader and 15 foot Jacobson gang mower. Its great. Any questions give me a hollar.

I couldn't help but to notice are those just hearing protectors or do they have a radio built in too ?

I recently test drove a JD3320 traded in at a local dealer. I was surprized at the amount of noise it made. Our old 750 runs much quieter. I'm guessing because it has alot more iron in it and the engines are slower speed ? Anyhow I was put off by the noise and cheapness of the new ones, but they sure are comfortable to sit on.

If you're going into the 4000 Series, go big enough to get the Kanzaki transaxle, and go old enough to get the Yanmar engine. Let someone else shake the bugs out of that new small Deere-built engine.
