I am looking for any way to track down John Deere sales records of the early 1900's. My father-in-laws family bought a John Deere A as thier first tractor, the 100th year celebration for the family farm is coming up in a couple of years and I was hoping I could track down this tractor if it was still around and or find out which type of A they had by the serial number and restore an A for the family. I used to work for a gentleman named Red Gaede and I helped him haul allot of tracotrs several years ago. I found out how helpful that the antique tractor community can be from that experience. If anyone has any information I would surely appreciate it. Thanks again . John Higgins Genoa Colorado

Two-cylinder magazine might be able to help you if you have the serial number. At least they can tell you when it was made and what configurations it had.

John, you have a pretty tough mission in front of you. If you don"t have the serial number, you might talk to family members and see if they can narrow it down to the year. If there is no paperwork left within the family, you might try to figure out the dealership it came from. I have contacted the family of the old dealership here in Holyoke, and they have a few sales records yet. Sadly, they didn"t have records for the tractor my dad bought new there.Sometimes, older neighbors will remember where tractors went when sold or traded. Its like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but good luck!
