Just saw an ad in the Photo Ad section for a John Deere Model A with live hydraulics and live pto. I know you can put live hydraulics off the distributor. But is there a way to put Live PTO and an A?

Could be a M&W after market addon same as would on Farmall M or H? Also I have seen at least one M&M "U" that had one. Alsso I think there was a company in Iowa that made them. They went into the Left hand brake. Not to be used for shifting gears however. armand

Armand,
That likely would have been the Innes Company in Bettendorf, IA. They built the "Constant Power" continuous power take off attachment for A, B, and G tractors. It was a large unit on the flywheel side at the rear, and looks like it could have been driven off the brake, as you note. I've never seen one but if it was on a tractor it would be easy to see. Innes also built a large line of combine pickup units.

Ooops - looking more carefully at a picture, I see the Innes unit was driven by a belt attached to a pulley on the flywheel.
