Snow Holes in 40C tracks

I have a 40C with 10" tracks that do not have snow holes in them. The machine came form Long Island New York and was used on a potato farm. I am in New Hampshire and use it for snow plowing. This is my third JD crawler and the frist without snow holes and now see why they are so important. It is not for added traction, but for the snow and ice to be able to pass through the chains and not bind up on the sprocket and idlers.

Now the question. Does anyone have a good scheme to put snow holes in 64 track pads and make it look reasonably good, not like a real cobb job? Could someone tell me the dimension of the snow holes in a 40C track pad? I remember that they are not round but rather oblong. Would round holes work OK?

If you make a steel tempate there is no reson you can't use a cutting torch. I have seen a broken steering clutch housing because a track packed with ice because of no snow holes and over tightened the tracks.

I don't have a plasma cutter, but thought about making a template out of steel plate and using a cutting torch and cutting around the inside of the template hole. I have done that on straight cuts and it worked pretty good.

Use a plasma cutter make a wooden guide lay it in the track and cut around it all holes will look the same
