Yes, Im really glad i can see where the origional decals were placed on this tractor, the last one I did was rusted so bad the only ones I could document were the ones on the rear fender, I know the ones on the hood are wrong but I could not find anything that showed the correct placement. So I am really pleased this one will be correct.

this tractor has never been painted, The origional owner never did anything to it but use it and repair anything it needed, He bought it new in 52, so decal location has to be correct. Though a boot might fix that tire, thats the good one, the other fell off in the yard

I don't think those electric hour meters came in anything but black ?

Was also wondering if that is where the letter R is to be at ?

Hi Mike -- Merry Christmas!

From all of the archive pix I could find, that location for the model designator decal is right on! Also -- for the hood decals: On the right side, the JOHN DEERE part is situated (roughly) such that the "EE" in DEERE is on the muffler centerline, and the "S" is DIESEL is centered on the air stack. In other words, the hood decal group is positioned forward of being centered -- the forward-positioning is true for both sides.

And so once again -- in deference to the A's & B's, the decision to move "R" hood decals forward seems to have been made from the git-go. On the other hand, for the A's & B's, hood decals were moved in mid-1950 production year -- November 1949. This appears to be the implementation point in the factory. Decals! A most interesting topic indeed. (PatB)

My neighbor has a 52 "R" and has never been repainted and the decal is in the same spot.

I have not really been around those BIG models in my area Ohio they were few and far between.

That seems like a really weird spot for that R when compared to the A,B of the same period. Wonder what they were thinking ?

The changeover from white to black face gauges is part & parcel of the massive amounts of study done by Jerry Trcka of Evergreen Restoration in Spooner, Wisconsin. He can ensure you are getting the right gauges for your tractor -- give him a call (715) 635-8629.

As for the main body of responders (me included), we can surmise when such changes happened because this subject has been kicked about on the forums for years, but Jerry has forced himself to be a better source -- the reason I send you to him. (PatB)

The R's were built right around the changeover between white and black face gauges, so a mix of colors is not a surprise.

Little fix-a-flat that rear tire will last for years.
