I recently purchased a JD 950. It's been sitting for about a year outside. The seller said it ran fine when parked. It turns over but doesnt start. Lots of white smoke out the exhaust, and it sounded like it maybe fired once. What should I check first? Any help troubleshooting is appreciated.

With a fresh battery and clean connections it started! Chugged a bit but soon settled into a nice purr. Thanks for the help!

Can I test the glow plugs with a multi-meter?

In a couple days when the weather warms up, Im going to clean all connections and try with a fresh battery. Thanks for the tips.

Did you cycle the glow plugs?

Make sure the compression release handle is in . It is located below the dash on the left side.

It's trying to start. You need really good cranking speed. How's the battery and cables? The fuel could also have water in it. ANYTHING can happen to a tractor that is left outside.
