I just restored a 1937 A and can"t get the brass valve that controls the fuel from the large tank or small tank to quit leaking
Is there anyone who makes a kit for these valves or someone who has a suggestion on how to fix this problem

There are a few things that you can try. One is to use some high quality, really, really fine lapping compound, and lap the two parts together for a finish that will not pass fuel. Chuck the tapered part, stem first, into your drill press or power drill, apply a bit of compound, hold the valve side into it and lap away. Clean, re-apply compound as needed, or if you have never lapped before, search the web for advice.

Next would be to try the o-ring trick, and install two neoprene o-rings in the grooves you make on a small lathe. Works pretty nice. You can even cut one on the stub end to use as a face packing, and nothing will get out of that.

To learn more about this concept, see the JD-H Restoration Site (below), scan across to ARTICLES 1, and from the drop-downs, select FUEL SYSTEMS.

The "O-Ring" design drawings you will find there are from Jacob Rupp, June 2005, and are posted (with his permisssion) in full detail -- to include O-ring sizes and bore amounts. (PatB)

Under the brass nut by the 3-way lever is a packing. Part# D2122R install a new one available from your JD dealer.

Have you got the nut tightened down? My valve on the A has been leaking so I just tighten it down and it quits for a while then starts leaking again. I assume the cork seal is part of the problem. It would be nice if there was a rubber type seal made for these that would stop the leaking so much.
