I usually paint big tractors for people, but this time i am restoring a 65' 110 lawn tractor. It has an 8hp. kohler in it. What color should i paint the engine block, black or green? I want to make it original. I have heard mixed results on this, and i'm leaning towards green but i just thought i'd make sure!!! Oh one other thing-there are two shades of green, AG, and CLASSIC-which is the correct one for the 110?? Any advice greatly appreciated!!

I have a 1970 and 1971 John Deere 110 in original colors and both engines are black. don't have any idea when the color change took place.

I think when they went to the one piece fender set up in '68 the engines went to black. We had a later 120 that was colored that way.

Three parts AG green and 1 part JD yellow gives you classic green. Some say two to one.

The original '65 that we had was green from the fatory. Shade of green? I cannot tell the difference myself, after examining pre-'60 and post '60, pre-'65 unweathered panels. I use PPG 46180 for the green and either Dupont 2612 in Acrylic enaqmel or 263 in urethane for the yellow.

HTH and FWIW,

Frank
