i think they were painted a different color than jd green too. either green magazine or two cylinder had a article this past year about them. sorry, don't remember which one or dates. this is twice they've had the same picture of one at work in those magazines. i guess that back the truck up and following along was a real nice jhob to do. wonder if the tied the trucks to the tractor and let it pull the truck along. if so, when the truck was nearly loaded, i guess that the jd was talking some.

eric stephen,

The John Deere Barber-Greene Model "50" was a limited production (maybe a few as 94) custom Model "50" that was built for Barber-Greene of Aurora, IL. Barber-Greene added their 550 windrow loader to the tractor to convey windrows of snow, gravel, dirt, etc. into trucks that followed along behind the unit. The custom Model "50" was fitted with special 28" rear wheels and 10" single front. Various other custom changes were made to the tractor to accommodate the windrow loader and its drive mechanism. If you go to YT "Tractor Photos" (left column on this page) and search for "John Deere Barber-Greene Model 50" you can view a photo.
