My brother just bought back the JD L that was in our family years ago. It runs good except for one problem - when you step on the clutch, it doesn't disengage and wants to keep going. Any ideas what may be wrong? Thank you Jim

I had the exact same problem and it turned out that one of the fingers on the pressure plate was broken. The plate looked fine and essentially worked fine, except that when you pressed the pedal in only about 4/5 of the plate let go of the disk.

There could be more than one reason. First check the linkage to be sure that the fork is being moved far enough. If there is good travel in the fork your prblem is inside. The fork could be broken, throw-out bearing and fork not seated properly, the pressure plate worn or broken, or even the clutch could be rusted to flywheel. Good luck.
