We recently repainted a late model 4020 gas... it sure has a nice coat of Ag Green on it now, but it was just a little too good and now we're not getting a good ground for the fender lights.
Anyone have any tips for establishing a good chassis ground? We were thinking that we'd end up wire wheeling the paint off of the bottom of the fender mounting bracket and also off the top of the rear axle housing where the contact point would be.... but I'd hate to take a wire wheel to fresh paint.

Good tip on the star washers... that should give me a good ground from the lights to the fender. The four mounting bolts that go through the fender and fender mounting block should give me good ground through the fender and block. 2 of 3 down!

Any tips for establishing a ground for the fender mouting block to the rear axle housing? I'll grind the paint if I have to, just trying to avoid that.

Thanks for the help, you guys are great.

The star washers are the best way to go. Their whole purpose is to dig in through the paint to create a good contact with the metal below.

If the lights are the type that mount with a 1/2 inch stud, get some 1/2 in internal or external star lockwashers and put under the nut. Another way if they have the hollow stud is to run a ground wire from the bulb to the outside and use a ring terminal and # 10 screw into the sheet metal. Oh use a star washer there too. Had to run jumper wires from fenders to chassis on a 2750, not paint but rust! HTH
