I have a JD 310C backhoe. It has a problem with blowing the radiator hoses off. There seems to be excessive pressure in the water system. I had a stick get into the fan blade but don"t know if that has anything to to with the problem. No guages so I don"t know what the temperature is. It will blow hoses off after less than one hour run time. I suspect a head leak of some sort. Please reply with any help. Thanks a lot.

Jim, I think you've got a problem with compression getting into the cooling system. Usually a head gasket but you could have a cavatated sleeve or worse a crack somewhere in the head or block. Try running with the raditor cap loose. If after a short while it blows out the coolant you can start the tear down. If it takes a while it could be a cooling problem but that should just boil over not blow the hoses off.

I will give the open cap a try. I am prepared to get into the head gasket issue. Hopefully that will be it if I have to go deeper. If you think of anything else let me know. I am going to give it a try in the next day of two and will let you know. Thanks

I wanted to let you know that when we got the head off there was an obvious gasket leak that had been there for a long time. The head is a little pitted around the valve and had been bleeding over to another cylinder a little. It looks as if the gasket will seal everything back off and we put it back together. I want to get some things changed before I fire it up but am hopeful that we have the problem fixed. Thanks for the info.

How is the radiator cap? Did you try a new one?

I will take a look at it and see if it is the problem
