40w set screw

while trying to remove the oil pump set screw ,the screw broke off flush with the block have tryed to drill out for ease out but all the bits I have tryed will not drill it any suggesation would be great

I have successfully used a carbaloy masonary drill at very low speed.

How big is the set screw? The reason I asked is because larger setscrews are usually soft in the center, but smaller ones get hard all the way through because of heat treating. You might try heating the screw cherry red and letting it cool slowly, providing you don"t dammage the surrounding area. Heating it may anneal it so it can be drilled. Are your bits good and sharp? You might also try to back it out with a hammer and a small center punch..... .....rw
