Hi everyone, My friend has a 401b that will not pull at all, will not move at all. I am not real familiar withh the trans on this tractor so please be easy. I pulled the shifter cover nad found no worn shifter parts, but did notice the top shaft looked to have slid rearwatd in the trans . the shaft had a keyway in it is this normal? The shaft went into what appeared to be a clutch pack, what is this for? Also when the clutch pedal is pushed down it makes a grind ing sound siniliar to a bad throw out oe release bearing. Any ideas or suggestions will be helpful. If additional information is neded please let me know Thank you for your time in advance jjonas

If the tractor has a reverser, check the clutch linkage under the tractor to see that it is moving freely, some of these tractor have alot of adjustments to the clutch with a reverser. And with the reverser there are also oring ports on the top of the clutch/reverser valve under your right foot plate to check foward and reverse pressures.

what is a 401b. a dozer i'm guessing. sounds like yo should have started on the clutch first. the throw out bearing may have been riding on the clutch fingers and wore them off. the clutch may have worn down so far that the pads have come off of it. i beleieve that i'd look at the clutch side of things before you go any futher.
