I need some help with the tranny on my 2010. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, & 8 gears all work great and go in every time. I can get 5 by first going into 3 then 7 and finally 5 and it will stay in. I have never been able to find 6.
I took the cover off a few weeks ago, and all of the gears look good. I ran a magnet down in the cover and there weren't any shavings, so I figured I have a linkage issue.

Using the JD service manual's procedure, I reset/adjusted the linkages for the speed change and range change shifter arms yesterday. The only result I had after doing that was that I lost R3.

Any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks

I better correct my first message, it should read 2010D not 2020. When you have the top off the tranny try to put it in one of the speeds that won't work, 5th? then try pushing the drum in with a screwdriver or something similar. Disconnect the linkage at the tranny and the shift cam should be in it's detent position on the side of the tranny. Wiggle the lever to be sure. If you're missing a roller on the range compartment the tractor has to come apart.

I can sympathize, I have syncro problems as well with my 2020D. First with the top off the tranny check the rollers on the end of the shifter fork dowels, there are two in front and two in rear, they had a tendancy to fall off the early models. If they are missing it will give you shifting problems because the forks can't push the drum far enough. They are available at JD dealer or a quarter inch drive 7/16 socket drill out and cut to size works as well. When you have the top off work the shifter and check the syncros to see if they go fully into gear, bump the starter and if it dosen't move or grinds it's not going in all the way. I have more but out of space.
