I recently changed the hydraulic oil, filter, screen, and tank because the oil didn't show in the sight glass. I cleaned the sight glass and everything else and proceeded to put the 10 gallons of hydraulic oil in that the manual says it takes to fill the reservoir. It would never come up in the sight glass. I put in 12 1/2 gallons and still nothing in the sight glass. I then checked the reverser oil level which is connected to the hydraulic reservoir and it was way over full which has been somewhat the case ever since I bought this machine recently. It was also frothy after running it a while. I am waiting on a manual but haven't had any luck with the John Deere mechanics around here having any idea what might be the problem Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hydraulic system and the reverser do not share oil.. There should be no connection. The reverser should be checked running as it has a torque converter and the level changes quite a bit from off to running... Aerated oil in the reverser is usually a sign of it being low and then when its started it "looks" over full from the presence of all the air in the oil. If it is in fact overfilling, I'd look at the cooler in front of the radiator. The reverser and hydraulics run through different sections of the cooler. Maybe the hoses are routed incorrectly? I cant recall if there is a possibility of a problem with cooler tubing being able to cause oil transfer between the two..

Thanks for the info. I drained the reverser oil out and then refilled through the dipstick tube to exactly the level it was suppose to be. I then ran the hoe for about 5 hours with no problems. I checked it this evening just sitting and cold and it was way up on the stick but still looked like new oil. Would you know what the capacaity for hydraulic oil for the 310C is? The only place I can find the information is in the operating manual under changing hydraulic and reverser oil. The two aren't seperated they are spoken of together and the manual says nothing about draining the reverser oil or filling it through the dipstick tube. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place or have over looked it. That is why I thought that the reverser and the hydraulic oil are linked. I put in 12 1/2 gallons of oil and it isn't in the sight glass. Any help would be appreciated. It seems to run and move fine but I wonder if the reservoir being low and the reverser being too full is a problem. The hydraulics seemed to be making a little more noise in the front loader than usual which might be explained by the oil being too low.
