Hey Guys:

I was just curious and wanting some input from the good engine builders what ring gaps generally are on a 404 or 466 turbo engine. When you look in the books they say rings come gapped from manufacturer. How do you know what is good so you can judge the wear of the sleeves? How far of a gap is too far so it's low on compression or too tight that the rings gald up?

Thanks for your input.

I thought you judged the wear of the sleeves with an inside mic. or a bore gauge. only way to really know how much wear is there ? And as for ring end gap ? You buy the sleeves and pistons as an assembly and ARE NOT to take them apart. You just slide the piston down enough to hook up the connecting rod and install them as an assembly.

I think Hastings says .003" per 1" of bore dia. is minimum ring end gap.
