Would anyone know the appropriate JD mower/shredder model for a late 3020? By that I mean the appropriate model for that vintage (early 1970s). What 7' shredder model would have been available in the early 70s?
Also, what was the progression of 7 foot JD shredder models? I believe current ones are called MX7s and before that was the 707 (what vintage is that?). If I'm not mistaken the Gyramower (sp?) models were discontinued by the early 70s but I'm not sure. I'd like to find a good, old used shredder but it's hard to search when you don't know which models you're looking for. Thanks.

I know they came intergal(3 pt) as I owned a 709. I think they also came pull-type.

Were these mounted or trailing machines? I'm interested in mounted. Thanks.]

I don't recall a model 707 but JD made a 709(7 ft) shredder that's a very good machine. It was advertised to cut up to 4" trees. It would also with good blades cut grass very well.

Sodly, I believe all the John Deere cutters were called "Gyramor" at that time. If you are looking for an age-appropriate cutter then you will want a 407. Hope this helps. Mike

I'm sorry that I can't remember the specific model#s but I believe the 707 was called the 'Gyromower'. When I was in high school Dad had a mounted (3 point) shredder which I'm pretty sure was a 707 that we used behind one of our 4020s for mowing horse weeds on set aside acres. We also had a pull type four row shredder we used for shredding corn stalks. I don't recall a model# for that one but it was probably 12' wide or wider and raised with a remote cylinder. I can tell you one thing about that one though, it was made to be used behind a tractor with a cab. Both Dad's 4020s were open station and you took a real beating shredding corn stalks. Neither one of those cutters were much of a chore for a 4020.HJ
