Unstyled B oil pressure

I know there have been countless posts on this subject, but I'd like to revisit the issue. I just finished resto on a 36 B to find no oil pressure. While cleaning the engine assembly, I found an oil line in a few pieces lying in the bottom of the case. I replaced it, checked all bearings, and figured the owners some 30 years ago, had parked the tractor after losing pressure. I tried my new guage and it works fine, took the engine cover off and turned the engine over and saw a lot of oil draining out of the bottom of the governor on to the camshaft. I removed the guage, and oil comes out there too, so I know it's getting to the guage. I had to rebuild the oil pump, and yes, I had too thick of a gasket on the bottom. I replaced it with a very thin one (less than .005), but still no pressure. I did belt up the tractor with still no pressure. The oil filter housing is fine too, with no "over tightning" damages. Looking into the case, I can't see any problems with oil leaking where it shouldn't be also. Guess I think I'm missing something, and hope someone else has been through this issue before. I have tried to adjust the pressure with the "screw" while it was belted up with no results. HELP!!!, thanks, Jerry

Have you double-checked the nuts on all the oil lines? When I bought my 37 B, it had no OP either. Figured it was a bad gauge because LOTS of oil came out of the hole when I removed the gauge while it was idling. But a new gauge didn't help. When I got the top and bottom open I found one of the large (1/2" or so) lines was in place at the oil filter housing but the nut had come loose and fallen down to the lower end of the line. So the pump was working but apparently lots of oil was getting out of that nutless (can I say that???) fitting. I slid the nut back up the line, tightened it down and the OP is right up where it belongs now.

I would check into the oil pressure regulating valve and see if something is stuck in the valve or a broken spring. The parts book has list of these parts. Ron Mn.

Did you have the gov. housing off and check everything out in there. That oil pressure regulator is up in there on that model too. You should be able to screw that screw all the way in and stop the oil from bypassing. Something might be missing or broken ?

On the front side of the governor, I did screw in the adjusting screw most of the way in with no results. I did have the governor off to clean the insides out of gunk and everything seemed to be tight and work properly. I didn't know how the insides work to know which way to turn the screw

Screwing the screw in should increase the pressure. Try going in tight and see if that helps.

Look at the picture FIT posted about the model H below and it is a similar setup where the screw pushes a spring tighter that then holds the flat spring over an oil port letting less bypass out.

I appreciate the help, and now I know which way to turn the screw. Just hope I don't have to pull the tractor down for a 3rd or 4th time (fuel tank leaks, ect). Thanks, Jerry

Yea, I guess Mike. Found out also last night that I didn't place a thick enough gasket on the oil pump and broke the coupling collar. And while I was draining the oil to change/fix this problem, I found a lot of metal pieces in the oil. I've most likely not have put a thick enough gasket on the fanshaft assembly and caused gear damage/excessive wear on those two gears. I at least have some oil pressure now, but will have to pull it all down again to fix the governor. I'll take a close look at the reed/pressure thing when I have it off. Thanks

JD should still sell the proper gasket for that pump. I have always used them in the past.

Mike when I checked a few months ago, it was no longer available. Guess they are running out of a lot of things I used to by from them, or no longer producing ( i don't know why because the prices on their older parts are going through the roof).
