I am ready to put my engine back together. I see a dot on the gear on the crankshaft, my cam gear has a dot on one side and another on the opposite side 90 degrees from it and I see a dot on my govenor gear. Can someone tell me what position all of the marks go in when timing. Also which side of my cam gear goes against the flange on the cam and in what position does the cam gear go on the cam. I would greatly appreciate any other assembly advice too. I got this tractor completely disassembled so I didn't have a way to record anything during disassembly.

Jeremy,
I have an unstyled B camshaft/gear handy. Your gear should have a beveled edge on one side of the center hole - the side with that beveled edge goes on the cam. With that decided, the dot which is on the inside of the gear toward the camshaft needs to be lined up with the far lobe on the camshaft (the right-hand lobe). Make sure the hole through the center of the camshaft is open, as that is what provides the lubrication to the cast bearings.

The cam and the inside of the cam gear should have V type marks on them that will line up. ( after I typed this upon rereading I think the V's are for the model H cam. The model B is going to be different if it doesn't have any marks I think then there is a way a mark goes in relation to one of the lobes. The later B service manual may show this. ) The outer rim of the cam gear will have a mark on the inside edge that will match up to the mark on the inside of the crank gear as seen looking down into the the crankcase through the top opening. Both marks will line up on the insides. The marks for the governor don't really matter as long as when the LH #1 cyl. is on TDC the mag. coupling slot is horizontal - - .

I'll have to see if I can find more info on that cam to cam gear match up.
