I need to take some play out of the shaft with the flywheel. Manual say's to adjust with the flywheel, move it in or out. My problem is I can get a socket on the bolts but there is not enough room to turn it. There has to be a trick, can someone inform my in this matter?

If you have a 3/4 drive breaker bar and a 12pt socket, you can get in there and loosen/tighten the bolts, 1/12 of a turn at a time.

My experience is to use a 3/4 drive insead of 1/2, because the 1/2 drive bar I have isnt as stout and flexes enough that you run out of room to move the tool before the nut moves.

Because of the angles involved, a special wrench is needed. The wrench don't come cheap. But you can have one made, and the "formula" is shown for one such wrench over at the JD-H restoration site (below). Once at the site, scan across to ARTICLES 1, and from the drop-downs, select FLYWHEEL WRENCHES. I know the wrench will work on your tractor -- I used it on my 41-A -- and it was just fine. (PatB)

Mike - No, that very wrench as pictured is the one I used on my early "A" nearly a dozen years back. That one now resides in Pencacola, Florida.

As for a "next project', I don't have a bead on one just yet -- maybe some golf will jog my memory! (PatB)
