I have a 1950 A, and i am getting some blow-by that comes out around the clutch pully, no oil just a little smoke, anybody got any ideas? I'm sure it isn't the clutch, it is adjusted up good.

It could be that seal but also an engine that needs rings,"blow by" . What's your compression at?

The next thing is the late A's, I know my 48 had one, is a vent pump that is encased in the fanshaft housing near the gov case. That has a vane type pump that actually pumps the cranckase fumes out and sends it to the intake inthe air cleaner. Ours went bad years ago and I remember it using oil.

Chuck & Kemper, I just had mine apart in that area and there is a large seal behind the pulley that should prevent any oil vapors from showing up in the clutch & pulley area. I have not replaced it but did see a posting the other day that disscused the seal and as I remember it comes with the plate that you see behind the pulley and costs over $100 per seal pkg. You might look back in the postings and get a more accurate quote as I am not positive it was for the " A " though. I also would suggest checking the crankcase vent system to be sure it is clear so that you don't build pressure in the crankcase. Good luck-- Mr B

Your smoke coming from the belt pulley is the result of worn piston rings. To solve your problem it will require new rings as they are worn out or stuck.
