We have a 1938 B that pegs the oil guage on high. With a master guage it has 100 lbs pressure at idle, or wide open. Does anyone know where the regulator, or relief valve is located? There is no external cap nut, have removed the oil pump, no valve there! Where is the valve? or does it have one? I don't have a book.

There is an adjusting screw on top of the oil filter head inside the crankcase. You have to remove the oil filler plate on top of the crankcase to get to it. Search the archives too - I think there have been previous discussions on oil pressure problems.

Thanks David
There is nothing on top of the oil filter head on this tractor, but there seems to be a small spot of nickle weld in the very center of the head. Maybe somebody "fixed" it before we got the tractor. I will have to pull the can and head and see what I find.

Thanks again

Also, while you've got everything apart, check the top of the filter housing can carefully to make sure it is perfectly flat. As in the case of mine, the top of these are many times distorted from overtightening the bottom filter cover, resulting in gasket failure and low oil pressure. It sounds like someone previously tried to fix a low oil pressure problem by by-passing the relief valve. You also should get a manual because if your 38 B is anything like mine which I purchased a couple of months ago, you could be very busy fixing lots of little problems.
