I recently purchased a 1941 JD "H". It reportedly had set for two years undercover in a shed.It had not been started during that time. It starts fine but smokes a great deal. Other than rings or bearings does anyone have anyother input what might be causing the problem. Thanks, Jerry

Aftyer sitting for a couple of years, especially if cylinders and valves not oiled good before storage, my first thought would be stuck rings. I have had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil in both gas and oil along with a good workout to warm the engine up good and keep it there for a few hours. If the tractor was overhauled before storage it may just need a good work out to re-seat the rings. Hope it works for you. Paul

Paul, thanks for the suggestion about the Marvel Mystery Oil. MY dad used it years ago in his tractors. I will give it a try. Have a nice day. Jerry

Jerry, be careful not to add more than recommended. I did that and fouled the plugs on mine. My H turned out to have too much wear on the cylinders and got a complete rebuild.

I assume that you have run out all of the old fuel. The thought is that someone may have added oil to the fuel when they stored it away. Tugboat

"Tugboat", Thanks for the idea about the fuel. When the guy I bought it from added some fuel, it smelled a little like disel. I thought later the container may have been used to fuel tractors needing each of the fuels. I wiil check this out. Have a nice day. Jerry
