From an article by J.R. Hobbs in the September 1996 Green Magazine, "While we're on the subject of fuels, one thing that we know for sure is that Deere did NOT produce "G" series tractors with LP-gas engines, though some experimentation probably went on. LP-gas was a popular and cheap fuel in many areas of the south and southwestern U.S. in the late 1940s and early 1950s and many "G" tractors were converted to burn this fuel. A number of aftermarket companies, notably Ensign, produced kits to convert the "G" to LP-gas operation. The Ensign kit was well engineered and if the directions were followed properly, produced a tractor that was reasonably efficient and looked pretty good." J.R. goes on to talk about some tractors that were converted by "torch artists" and the unfortunate, sometimes fatal, results of some of those conversions.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Mike,

You were absolutely right - that is if J.R. Hobbs is right. This might be one of those cases where I have told you more than I know - it happens a lot these days.

THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS.I"M THINKING OF BUYING IT BUT IT NEEDS ALOT OF WORK. THE LP THAT WAS PUT ON WAS DONE REALLY NICE, BUT IT NEEDS TIRES, MOTOR IS FROZEN UP AND WITH THE POWER BLOCK IN IT THE PARTS MIGHT BE HARD TO FINE FOR IT.

I know of 2 other LP G's but I think they are conversions. I do not believe JD made an LP G. If it has rotten tire and a stuck engine, I'd want to buy it for less than 500. If the fella didn't take it, leave name and # and tell to call you if he changes his mind. I think 500 is generous. Mike
