I just drove 175 mi(one way) yesterday to see a single bottom John Deere trailer plow that was advertised on this site. The man said it was in great condition and only needed paint to be ready for show. Well, To my suprise, He was right. I plan to pull it with my '38 B and would like to know year, model # and what width it is. the only marking is on one of the curved beams and is 614. It is on steel spokes, has a syracuse share and no tail wheel, just a slide. It measures 12" from the outside of one beam to the outside of the other. Does that make it a 12" or is there some other measurement to use. Also it has the spring hitch. Thanks again guys. chief

I have one of these plows as you described and it is a model 51. most of these that I have seen were either 16" or 18" bottom. The plow that I have is one 18". I forget how to measure the one bottom but if I remember right you measure from the land sides of moldboard 90 degrees (to the plow beam) across the moldboard to see how wide of a cut the moldboard will make. The moldboard will be longer than the cut it will make because of the angle it is mounted in the plow frame, so you will have to eye ball the left side measurement. My moldboard on my 18" is cracked and wish I could find a new or better bottom for it. You can do a decent job of plowing with these but I found that my two 16's 4b was allot easier to adjust. I pulled the one 18 with a stock 36 "B" in Iowa soils with no problem. The Old Timers at the plowing matches would always tell me that two 12's would pull easier than the one 18. Have Fun!! Dave W.

a #51 plow. 614 is the part # for the beam. Thats the way to measure other plows, not too sure on a one bottom. They are quite expensive also...
