What tractor to buy?

I have recently purchased a 10-acre plot of land and plan to eventually build a house on it. For now, it is a hayfield that needs to be maintained and I would rather farm it myself than hire someone to do it. Once the house is built, I will need a tractor to mow weeds, clear snow from long driveway, etc. I would like a tractor from the 50's or 60's with enough horse power and a 3-point hitch. Any recommendations for what model to buy would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well, there are a LOT of good deere models that would suit your needs. My suggestion is to get one with power steering. The "big deal" around my neck of the woods is to have a front end loader. And they are VERY handy for the homeowner, its true. Don't want to have to steer w/o power steering if you have a full bucket, IMHO. I have a snowblower on my 1010's 3 point hitch and that turning around to operate it gets really old. But w/o power steering, a bucket isn't that great an idea.

You want a good tractor to buy,get one all the neighbors hear and envy,a John Deere 620 or 630.This size ought to pull whatever size bushog or mowing apparatus you want to use.Practical for many uses.Just a thought,Jack(TN).

What is your color preference John? There are many tractors out there that will work for you. Probably more important than the brand and model, would be the condition.

I am a Minneapolis Moline buff, but realize their availability is now limited. After that, I would prefer a John Deere. Although I am looking for a 50's or 60's model, I do intend to USE the tractor, rather than collect them. Thanks...

For cutting grass etc a preferably live pto and three point hitch will be required. Light weight on the grass would be an assete as heavy pulling isn't required. A 40,320,420,330( good luck, just had one up here go for $27,000.00 Canadian),430 or a more modern 1120. All will fit in a standard auto parking spot and pass through a standard garage door. Can be trailered with a modest tow vehicle.
