I recently bought a 1010 and there is no ser. number tag on engine. I got a number from a deere dealer for security. I gave her a number off of transmission and she says its a 1961 model and gave me the serial number. My question is that there is an hour meter in the tractor with no cable and corresponding place to connect it. All the books I've looked in show it connecting below the distributor. There is no such connect point on this engine. The hour meter has about 1550 hours on it. Could the engine have been changed with another style that did not use the hour meter. The engine looks like all the others in every other respect. How can I find out where this engine could have come from? Is there another place where the cable could have been connected too. Is there a way in which I could hook the cable up so I have a functioning hour meter with Tach and MPH? Any help would be of great appreciation. Thanks very much. PS: The deere dealers I talked to couldn't offer an Ideas!

sounds like you have a combine engine in tractor. a lot of people switched these out. There was no need for tach on those so no housing, if you want a tach you'd have to rig up an electronic model, good luck.
