I started my 1950 Model B yesterday and had very low oil pressure. I shut down and checked the oil and found the crankcase full of gas. What will cause this? A stuck float or something else? The gas had not been cut off at the tank and the tractor had been sitting for about 2 weeks.

The tractor starts easy and runs good.

hi,
I bought a '37 B that did the same thing. I had 2 problems:
1. the gas shutoff valve wouldnt totally stop the gas
2.my needle valve in my carb was worn and prbly so was my float.

I put in a new shutoff valve and also had my carb totally rebuilt. So it could be the float, or the needle valve in your carb could also be worn. Eventhough i have done all of this I still shut off the gas and let the tractor idle until its burns up all the gas in the carb and in the line. This is really the best way to store these old tractors. If its runs and starts good, I wouldnt mess with the carb and just shut off the tractor by turning off the gas at the tank.

Clean or replace the needle valve and seat and put a fuel filter in the line to stop the trash from getting in the needle valve.

CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER IMMEDIATELY!!!

What type of filter works best due to no fuel pump. Is fuel flow a problem with some filters. I always thought the sediment bowl and screen in it worked pretty well.

I have a 49-B with the oil pressure saftey shut off.Which has diaphrams in it(above the sediment bowl) mine were no good so it leaked gas into crankcase,so much it was dripping out the crankshaft seal by the clutch pulley!I replaced the diaphrams myself it was easy. They cost about $3.00 at JD dealer. Hope this helps Dean
