I am in the middle of restoring a 53 G. I was wanting to know if any of you guys out there could tell me where you can buy cast iron pistons? I have found pleanty of aluminum pistons but, I would like to put cast iron back in the G if I could.

Use aluminum pistons. The tractor will run better and smoother along with bonus horsepower. Ive had 4 or 5 G's over the years and they are very sad weak tractors for their size when the cast iron low compression pistons are used. Using a later improved part will not harm your restoration. Besides you're not burning kerosine, the reason a G was never produced as a gas tractor, was because it comsumed so much fuel, so by keeping it distillate, the cheaper fuel could be used.

G Taylor less weight = less stress

If the engine was rebalanced for lighter pistons why not reduce the bottom end stress and loading with lighter components? An increase in compression does wonders for fuel efficiency and power as well. It's almost free power up to the point where it knocks on 94 octain pump gas. Burns fuel better at idle for parade and hayride tractors as well.

Don on a '53 J.D. "G" by all means put the cast iron pistons back in. There should be some N.O.S. pistons out there,or sleeve the engine back to standard and use the ones you got.You didn't state the condition of block,I've got some used pistons and a set of rings for cast Iron pistons if I can be of assistance yell Gman

I really like my Aluminum pistons.. tons better then my Cast pistons... We have one G that is still the factory bore with the regular compression Aluminum pistons and a G with the aluminum high compression pistons... We are not to fond off the lack of HP in the regular pistons compared to the high compression pistons... You do not have to run any special fuel or anything with these pistons.. it only increases the ratio to about 6.5 to 1... much better than the 4.5 or 4.2 to 1 on the cast pistons... This is just my opinion.. this is how my Grandfather build his G over 40 yrs ago with the M&W pistons so that is the way I build mine... This is just our opinion... JDGnut

Gman.. why do you like the Cast pistons over the Aluminums in the stock tractors???
